Heat Plates can be so depressing.

I use a heat pad, not a plate, but I personally liked the fact that the chicks were quietly tucked under it at evening instead of peeping throughout the night. Sure I'd feel better if I could clearly see them, but they seemed a lot more cozy and well adjusted being able to run to "mama" to warm up and then playing around outside after that.
X2, personally I rank their welfare above my enjoyment and multiple broods of happy, healthy, well adjusted chicks growing as close to natural hen brooding as possible gives me all the happiness I need

We have a Cozy Coop flat panel. You place it against the brooder wall and the chicks nestle up to it. They end up kind of in a line along it if they're cold. It's inexpensive to run and no fire danger. They clean easily because the chicks can't poop on them. Very easy to use and you can see them all the time. A little pricey but not as much as a good brooder. We have two and once when it went below freezing for several nights we used them both at once.

PLZ HELP IM DESPERATE, I HAVE A DYING CHICK HERE WITH AN ABNORMAL VENT AND CANT LET ANY POOP THROUGH WHAT SHOULD I DO !!!

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Chicken+Stuffed+animal&ref=nb_sb_noss_2 and for my 1000th post... I thought I would share a link for stuff animals we can place on top of our brooder plates... although I am not certain if its a fire hazard although I highly doubt it is. they have different breeds and patterns... Silkie, Barred, Red, Columbian etc... (ADDED THROUGH EDIT: I am not going to do this because my cosmetic affects budget is currently $0)

I don't know how you can do this to us!

(Old Grey Mare, thank you for helping.)

For two of them.. one batch I gave to my broody Silkie.. I just integrated them in the flock... Lord help me.. here they are learning to roost with mama..View attachment 1776626
:lau You can barely see the 4th little chick. It blends into momma really well. She’s all beak.

And any picture with a broody and her babies is just precious.

I’m not sure the Cozy Coop flat panel is the best for brooder chicks. It only warms what is right next to it and unless the chicks stand on top of each other there is too much wasted space that runs vertically. A heat plate for chicks needs to be something they can either sit on top of or run under, preferably. By using two, you doubled the space for the chicks.
