the news story is gone, but since my luck and my lovely hens fluctuate greatly I'm not heating my water bowl. I put an aquarium powerhead in it, pretty strong one, around 295 gph, and the circulation keeps the water from freezing. I just worry about fires. Don't heat my coop either. Hung plastic to block wind on run, tacked pondliner over most windows on the coop itself, and opened the sheltered side door for them to go in and out.
