What type of heated waterer do you use? What are save ones?

I use an electric water heater base. It is just the base and you can place any size waterer on top.

This is a pic of it, however I did not buy it from that online place. I bought it at my local feed store. Mine is also the Little Giant brand

I have used a heated dog bowl for just a few birds and a heated metal base with a large metal waterer on top of it for a big flock. A heated plastic hanging waterer just came out last year, but I haven't tried it, yet. There are also directions somewhere for making a heater base out of a metal cookie tin, with a light bulb inside. That's been popular.

No mater what kind you use, it's always safest to keep it elevated off the litter and on something that is fireproof, like concrete blocks and also be very stable, so it isn't tipped over. We've never had a problem.

I keep my waterer and heater on paving stones set beneath my raised coop so the heater setup is out of the weather. I had good luck with the heater, and it never overheated or froze. The base never got too warm to touch, so I felt good having it around the girls.

Using an electric heater requires a power source. Luckily my coop is close enough to a power source to make this work.

Jenski does, but lives in TN (it doesn't get very cold there...does it?)
