heated waterer pics?

The water in the hose will freeze unless buried.
the aquarium heater must stay covered with water to my knowledge or the will burn out.

This is my second year of using two of those 3 gallon hanging heated waterers and while at first glance I thought it was pretty cheap it has worked beautifully.

the only thing you need to watch is with an open dish you will be adding a lot of humidity to the air, warm water evaporates very fast, in an open dish with a large surface, if you have it in the coop there is a possibility for frost bite, when I use a heated bucket or dish I try to keep it outside by the pop door

I measured the temp on my heated dog watering bowl and the water temp is low 40s. Fine considering my regular waterer was ice. Putting the non-heated unit away until spring now.

True. Hose is buried and we actually have a toilet float valve so that the bucket never goes empty. We've had temps of -5 to -10 for the last 3 nights and them water is always liquid in the morning, no worries so far.

Ok this is the one I built.I have been trying to take pictures for 3 days Gets dark too fast.
I havent started it up yet this year.
Its built out of 2x8 and aluminum flashing on top and License plates on the bottom. They are removable to change the bulb.I have a ceramic light fixture inside with a 40 watt bulb.I cut off the end of the orange extension cord and wired in the side of the box to the light fixture.

I bought the heater @ strombergchickens.com. The waterer @ TSC. and put it over a home water heater pan to catch what ever drips off their beaks to keep the floor dry. It all works great and I love it. Will

Waterer on the left. It is the heated dog water bowl from TSC for $20. You can get buckets and big tubs at TSC made the same way by the same company - they all come in the same color of blue. I chose it because that's what they had local, I like the size for my birds, and the price was right for the amount of convenience it provides me. It has a thermostat so it only comes on when it needs to, so I'm not paying electricity when it's warm in the daytime, but I don't have to worry about turning it on at dark either.
It's up on a 1/4 pallet to keep the shavings out - the adult birds don't get it very poopy/dirty compared to chicks. I dump it outside the coop and put in fresh warm water when I get them up in the mornings. It's plugged in to that fluorescent lamp on the fence to keep it up off the damp ground. Right now it's on extension cords, permanent wiring will be added whenever I can get it done.

I found a thread on here today about a cookie tin waterer heater and made one today in about 10 minutes! It is currently in my coop and works great! All for under $7.00 and could be free if you have the stuff laying around. Search the thread. You'll be happy and they have pictures of theirs listed.

I use those dog heated bowls for...well...my dog and cats. My cat one is indoors and works great. My dog one is out side and still freezes. Is it because it's still WAY TOO COLD out side. It's 11 with a WC of -15.
