What is a [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]cookie tin heater?[/FONT]

Here you go. I built one of these for less than $5. It uses a 40W bulb. This will be it's third winter, works great.

I am trying to figure out a heating system for my 3 gallon plastic waterer. If you tried the sand in the heated dog bowl method... did that work?
