I do all my chciken shopping at www.mypetchicken.com They have everything you need and the people who work there are really nice and they can really help you out with advice about your flock. And i remember seeing a heated water thing for sale on thier website.....
The past couple of winters for the main pen of birds, I used large heated dog bowls; also I have used small heated buckets worked when I had geese. If you are concerned with the electric bill you can empty the dishes out and unplug them at night if you wish. I believe that I got them at Tractor Supply Co. This method works great for me.
I didn't know MY Pet Chicken sold supplies, It was same price as amazon, I would have gotten it there if I knew,I am looking for heated hanging bottles for my rabbits now.
But the best idea I've seen yet for below freezing chicken water-ers is a crock pot (keep warm setting) plugged into a thermo cube. Simple. Easy. Efficient. We've not had cold enough weather for me to worry yet - but this is what I'm going to try.
I use a 250 watt bird bath de-icer that actually goes in the water and works great. I have a 3.5 gallon plastic bucket nipple waterer and no more frozen water or nipples.
Oh lord, 7691, your picture had me going for a minute. I was reading your post and thought I saw a bug on my screen in my side vision and almost atted it.
Good one......
