Our chicks are now two months old. Do they still need a heating lamp at night? They really don't go near it or rely on it. It's been in the 60's at night and may go down in the 50's this week. I tend to have it go on if it goes below 70 and off over 70. Plus I don't think the light is helping them sleep. Thanks.

At two months they should NOT need added heat especially if it is only 60F.
That is not cold enough for added heat.

X2 On what Kiki said, they'll be absolutely fine without it. That said, keep an eye on them if the temps do drop, they may need to get used to colder temperatures going into Winter.

they'll be 3 months on October 16 by which time we hope they will be big enough to integrate with the rest of our flock. They are too small right now compared to our bigger birds.

If you only have a small hatch rate, say, about 4-5 little chicks...... can a small regular incandescent bulb work as a heating source?

I don't think so but from what everyone has said, I think they will be fine. They've been out in the rain in cooler weather and like it!

Thanks everyone. Just wanted to make sure they didn't freeze at night but there are six in a small coop and from what you said, they should be fine. Plus I think the light is what is keeping them in the run until after dark when they should be going in their coop.

If you really don't feel comfortable about them without the heat lamp, perhaps add some wood shavings so they can snuggle there just in case.
