I'm in need of a safe heating source for my Coturnix quail, for when I'm awhile for three days. I'll be away for graduation in December; they are roughly 2-3 days old right now. I'm currently using a heat lamp, which I like but I worry. And I got a heat plate but the thing is too big for my setup, so I'm going to return it. Mind the fact that I only have four newborns so by then I'm hoping they will be good, but I still like to have something just in case we get into negatives, over the winter. Thank you!

I settled on ceramic heat bulbs. It’s like a heat lamp without the light. They also seem to last longer, especially as I vary the power with a dimmer switch to control temps. The red bulb heat lamps don’t seem to like that.

brilliant ill have to figure that one out

If you can find them? Incandescent light bulbs will work in place of a heat lamp bulb. 60 to 100w is usually adequate to keep the the littles warm. I have used them when I couldn't get red heat lamp bulbs or had one burn out and no replacement.
If
you want too, you can paint the bulbs with a high heat resistant red paint, let it 'burn in' and there's no problem with it emitting harmful vapors.

That's what I use. It keeps them warm without messing up their day/night cycle.

The heat lamp should be fine. Just make sure they have a warm and a cool end in the brooder.
I have a question I hope someone can help me with. I recently bought a brooder heating plate to use for my newly hatched chicks, has anyone had good luck with these? I have lights I can use instead but I heard that these were safer. Also is there any suggestion?? (Btw, I hope I posted in the right area)
Thank you
