Hedemora Thread

Does this breed still have a problem with susceptibility to Mareks? Or is everyone inoculating their Hedemoras against this? Thank you.

I can only speak for myself, but I have owned Hedemora from multiple direct sources, and other breeds in my current location, for four years and have never had a Marek's issue, my flock right now has very few deaths from disease. I do not vaccinate and prefer to breed for resistance.

Altair, thank you for your input. I too, try to breed for disease resistance and prefer to not purchase from those places that inoculate.

Would anyone else like to contribute to their experience with Hedemoras and Mareks?

Thank you.

You're very welcome. For me in my environment they've been very hardy birds.

Is this thread current? Looks like all this posts are at least a year old. I'm looking for a possible hatching of a Hedemoras egg and wish for more information on the breed

If you do facebook at all, I recommend the group down in my signature.

I am incubating some eggs I ordered. They're a mixture of fancy breeds. At least 1 is a Hedemora. Hatch day is Thursday or Friday. I live in Midlands of South Carolina. Horrible hot Summers.
