Go to the top blue bar where it says "uploads". Browse thru your pics, pick one and then hit the submit button. Then, copy the "img" address underneath the pic. Then paste to the post.

You should be able to post pics by now.

These are the two pics that I took of her leg. Hope they can help us all fiure out what is going on with her.

I see that no one is answering your post as I have been following it. And I have no idea what is wrong there on the leg. However, it does look really inflammed and infected. So I would get her on some antibiotics right away. I am not sure about what type to use, but any general type of antibiotic would help. I would ask at the feed store what is recommened for infection in the leg.

Next, I would check her over for mites. She could have some sort of leg scale mites and is getting infections under the scales. So maybe treat for mites also.

I hope your Red recovers and all this irons itself out.

Thanks so much for your reply. I have put antibiotics in her water, and she is in one of my two sick pens so no other chickens or roo's can bother her or hurt her even more. I also have plans to start working on the leg mites again. I was trying to get rid of them before she started limping but after that her balance was so off that I didn't trust putting her through the stress of soaking her legs in water and scrubbing them. I guess I don't have much of a choice now do I? Something drastic has to be done before I loose her from something that I could have taken care of. Thanks for your reply and concern for Red. I'll keep trying and trying.................

I would stand her in some epsom salts water and try to "draw" that thing, if there is an abcess in there. Don't let her drink the water and have it as warm as she can comfortably take. Soak at least 10-15 minutes a couple times this evening and then see how it looks. Bird pus is not like mammals, it's a really cheesy, thick goo, so it's not going to open and drain like a mammal abcess would, but it might come to the surface enough for you to tell if you need to lance the thing and clean it out..

We have been answering...were just needing a picture to help us out more......

With that said....I looks like the mites made it bad and that perhaps she or the others started to pick at it making it even worse.

Feed her scrambled eggs with buttermilk to help boost her healing ability.

For the Wound on her leg...Soak her leg in warm Epsome salt water for 10-15 minutes (TWICE a day)...This will help draw out infection and help with pain too.
For the mites (which looks really bad) some say scrubbing with vinegar water...but that would hurt her sore....
You can also do one of 2 things....
1. use plain vasaline and coat her legs really well after the soaks (not the wound...us a good coat of antibiotic ointment on that)
2.mix a little bit of SEVIN dust into the vasaline and coat the legs well (putting the antibiotic ointment on the sore)

Whichever way...make sure to work the vasaline up and under the scales...this will suffocate the mites and kill them.

Best Wishes,
Laura

Thanks, I will tell my hubby to pick some up for me on his way home tonight (epsomsalts). Should I use Petrolium Jelly on her legs then for the mites?
