I love all of my pets and if i had to do it ( removed the maggots ) I would.. But I dont know how you didnt get sick, The LOVE for him got you through it I guess... Thank you for sharing your past few day's with us, by doing so it may just save a few people & pets from going through this, since we are now awear to it.

Peanut is still doing okay but I'm noticing small things that worry me. For instance, he won't stop eating or drinking. I have to keep taking his good an water away in order to let his food settle. When I called the vet about it they just said that he is probably just glad to be home but since this is the second day and he's still doing it, Im worried.

He's also having trouble pooping. I brought him in the kitchen to wonder around this morning and I noticed that he was squatted in the poop position for a long time. He'd pop out a really small poop and then squat to try again while making a strained squeaky noise. This went on till he'd pooped about 5 times I think.

I'm sure that some of this could be because of medication or the fact that he's probably not feeling well. Its possible that he may have stopped eating and drinking when the maggots first got to him and that could have made him hypoglycemic. But I feel his crop each time before I take away the food and water and its crammed full.

Any ideas?

Oh, the vet also swabbed his throat because he had a lot of mucus. So I think that made his throat sore.

I agree he isn't eating and drinking so much because he's glad to be home. That would have happened the first day. Drinking so much makes me wonder if there is kidney involvement. Eating so much, I guess could be from the maggots causing malnutrition. he isn't absorbing nutrients from his food . I don't know what his meds would cause in side effect. He could be constipated because he wasn't eating enough food before and digestion is sluggish. Medications can cause either constipation or diarrhea. You would have to ask you vet.

There are so many vet techs, and nurses etc. on BYC I hope they will notice this post and add their professional comments. He looks like such a sweet little guy. It's good that you are so observant, no one knows him like you do.

I called the vet and they said to bring him in again today. So I ran home and tried again to give him his food and water and this time he slowed down on his own after drinking and eating a lot. So I went ahead an canceled the appointment. He's already going in on Saturday so I'll keep and eye on him till then and see how it goes

Is his crop emptying now? Is He pooping again? I wouldnt take away his water. Let him rehydrate. If he really does have a sluggish GI tract either because of illness or meds you will make it worse by not letting him get enough water. Have you tried some olive oil or applesause? Maybe a little ear juice to get him going. Not sure. I'm a pediatric nurse not a chicken nurse
