height of perches, compared to nesting boxes

OK, I am thinking of putting in my nesting boxes. What are the rules/guidelines for heights of perches compaired to nesting boxes?
Which should be higher? I have seen this addressed somewhere but do not know where to find it.

Your roosts should be higher than the nestboxes. I had to make everything sort of low to the ground because I have LF brahma. They are very heavy birds and I didn't want anyone to suffer a leg injury from jumping from too high a place.
My nest boxes are roughly 18" off the ground and the roosts are about 24". Not much difference, but it works.
