Height of roost

How has the height of three feet worked? I recently moved the roosts up with poop boards underneath with a height of about 30" from the floor to the edge of the poop board. When they jump down there is a thump louder than I'm used to hearing and want to be sure that height is ok.
I have about the same....the thumps are sometimes disconcerting, but have had no injuries and I do have a ramp for those who would rather not jump down.

Well, I have never worried about them getting down. But I did have an older gal have a harder time getting up to the roost, so I set up a small pallet under the nests, about 15 inches up and that worked well.

What I do worry about is distance from the roof and walls of the coop. To close, and moisture will collect on them. Good ventilation at the top of the coop, hens on the roost well below that. I like a good foot ABOVE their heads when they are on the roost.

I have had no injuries other than possibly one Freedom Ranger Rooster that I kept my second summer. He was HUGE, and such a beast to the ladies that I decided to butcher him in November or December. I don't know if his sore leg was due to jumping down from the top roost, but time in a large dog crate helped him heal. I also try to make sure there is plenty of bedding on the floor of the coop to soften any landings.
