hello all, cant find a breed for this roo, have had him for about a month. he is very protective of his hens. the previous owners could not handle him anymore, he was in a backyard coop that was very small, since then he has a giant coop, 9 hens and has mellowed out alot, i got him for free and would love to find out a little more about what he is. the only pic i have of him right now is the pic of when we brought him home, ty in advance

ty, after looking up ee's i would have to say that is correct, i hatched out a chick late last night with his same colors, i hope it is a roo, these guys are awsome at protecting the flock, i have 2 pitbulls on my farm and they are scared to death of him, but thank you, now i can read up on what breeds he may have come from :)

ee in my view too.

I had an ee roo that was very, very protective of his hens too. He watched me, but he was never aggressive.

He finally died--don't remember from what.

Ameraucana roosters, IMHO, after they put on a little age (2-3 years) can become very protective of hens. I've never had one that was particularly aggressive with me, but if they don't like you, well, maybe. They don't like to be challenged, and if they are left to think they are the king, they always get along well with people.

Don't crow at him when he crows. If you crow, he is more likely to become aggressive since you're crowing and saying, "The girls are all mine."
