This is actually my second time posting to BYC but while searching how to make a new thread I thought I should post here. I figured out how to thread so... yeah. I have five red stars and four appleyard ducks. If I didn't have to keep them seperated they would have an eighty square foot enclosed yard. They do come out regularly so no worries there. The chicken coop I built, flooring is netted to allow waste through and braced with 1x4s. Sixteen square feet with four nesting spots, two roosting poles and a shelf on each side. The ducks have a five foot kiddy pool for swimming, washing and drinking. I used an igloo dog house for them filled with timothy hay. I made a biofilter using a five gallon bucket, charcoal, sand and gravel. Hand filtering, I am able to do about fifteen gallons a day. Anyone have any other ideas on filtering a duck pond? Changing the water every three days is not practical and I have been asked to not use the electricity... stupid, I know. Ideas would be welcome!
