Last year I got my first ducklings, all four of them were different breeds, and I loved raising them, but unfortunately the first was sick when I got him and died pretty quick. Then two more passed away after a few months and it wasn't until then that I finally was able to find suggestions on what was going on and it turned out it was a niacin deficiency. My last duck, Koda, a female Khaki Campbell grew up big and strong and since duckling season was passed and she was alone, I sent her to a farm that had another lonely duck so they could have a better life together. Now its a year later and I am hoping to get more ducklings soon, but this time I will be more prepared with extra niacin. I want to join this site because it helped me a lot getting started, and if anything else goes wrong I want to be able to get help quick without driving hours to the nearest farm vet. Also even if I am unable to get my ducklings this year, I love reading and learning more about ducks and chicken because my dream is to have a farm when I have the money. Sorry this is so long, but I just wanted to let you all know, I am really greatful for this community, and I am excited to be apart of it!
and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about your last ducklings, they were cute little guys, at least you were able to figure out what the problem was. Good Luck with the new babies this year, hope you are able to get all the breeds you want!
