I have been snooping around this site for months now, and since I got my first chicks last night, I figured it would be the perfect time to join! TSC was running low on the red sex links, so I had to get an assortment of them. I'm hoping they can all get along. I have 3 RSL, 3 White Leghorns and 2 Tetra Tints. It took me lurking around the forums here to find any info about the Tetra Tints. It's nice to be able to hop on this website to find answers to almost any question I could have. I'm hoping to really get involved in this site. It'll take a while before I have the experience to speak intelligently though!

After a while I'll get some pictures attached to my profile, my birds won't sit still long enough for the camera to focus!

Thanks!
BrentonL

What kind of feed are you feeding your chicks

Turkey grow with 20% protein and some Probiotic is needed in the
water for the first week

And for some really healthy chicks feed some hard boiled egg's
once a day for three days as the egg has everything needed to
make a healthy chick

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Congratulations on your new chicks! Sounds like you have a nice little flock, with that selection of breeds, they should lay you a lot of eggs for sure. Always nice to have pictures of chicks whenever yours decide to pose for the camera!

They're getting the DuMor chick starter. I think some of them are different ages. The RSL are tiny compared to the Tetra Tints, about a third of the size. The leghorns are between the two breeds. Is this going to effect what kind of feed they need? They are getting probiotics in their water.

When I give them a hard boiled egg, do I need to mash it up, or just peel it and give it to them whole? This is the first I'm hearing of giving the chicks eggs, but I'll always bow to superior knowledge!

Thanks!
BrentonL.

Welcome to BYC!

Congrats on the new chicks! Yes the Dumor will be fine for all the babies. Yes, hard boiled eggs are great for babies. Chop them up so they can eat them well. Clean up what they don't eat within about 10 mins as leaving them in the brooder with all that heat, the egg can grow bacteria.

Have you stopped by our learning center yet? Lots of great reads on all the aspects of keeping your brood. I will also include the section on raising your new babies...

If you have any other questions, that is what we are here for. Enjoy your new babies and welcome to our flock!

Welcome!
I also just got my first babies. I joined because every time I googled a chicken question it brought me here. Finally I just said, "why not?" And really I'm not a joiner. I think this could be fun, though. I'm in love with chicks already.
