Hello All!

Welcome to BYC!

We're glad to have you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

You have a beautiful flock! I especially love your Lavender Orpington.

Tickle (lavender Orp) is my favorite too. We are still trying to figure out if Peep, the buff, is a roo or a hen. He/she has been crowing for a couple months now, but was sold as a pullet. Even though I was raised on a farm, we never had chickens.

Peep looks like a male to me.

I was leaning towards roo also. I'm learning as I go, but in comparison to the lavender of the same age, hackle feathers are pointier, comb and waddle are brighter red and larger, and then there's the crowing. Lol

Thanks for welcoming me. Right now I have 2 Orpingtons (lavender and buff) an Australorp, and a Sussex. I'm getting ready to add a couple more Orpingtons and some Icelandics.

I've had all of those breeds at one time or another except the Icelandics (I'm envious; I would love to have some). You're Orpingtons are beautiful. I have some of the Buff Orpingtons in my flock and would love to have some Lavender Orpingtons as well. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed; very hardy, calm and gentle, and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. It's neat to see you boy interacting with your chickens. Raising chickens is a great experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. Good luck with your beautiful flock.
