HELLO AND THANK YOU ALREADY!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

I am so sorry about your bird! :hugs

Have you read this article? https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...ntion-and-treatments-of-crop-disorders.67194/ Lots of good tips on treating sour crop.

Your bird is pretty young to be developing sour crop, not that any age bird can't have digestive issues. Does this bird free range a lot yet? Did you see any grass pieces in the vomit or in the poop? If so, could be an impaction. Also, are you feeding too many goodies? This can upset the micro flora well.

Keep us posted!
Hi- thanks for replying! Yes they are free range and no I didn’t find any grass! They have had a few goodies but I will stop that from now! Do you know what yogurt to use? I have some Greek style is that any good? The vomit was brown with white bits in it. Can I start feeding her again? Sorry to bombard you and thanks so much, Charlotte x

Have you clicked the link and read the article? It has very good information.
Greek yogurt is fine. Mix in maybe a 1/2 tsp of Poultry Nutri-drench for extra nutrition.
Do the chicks have access to grit?
It's very dangerous to vomit a chicken. They can easily aspirate.
I'd keep her warm and wait until the crop clears before offering chick feed again and when you do, make it into a very wet mash.

No bother with the questions! :-)

The brown color is due to the length of time the gunk hadn't moved out of her crop. It's still possible she has a blockage somewhere in her intestines.

Can you cage her for a few days? She needs to be on a soft diet, no free ranging or hard seeds. Dampen the chick feed to so it's easier to digest. Check her poop carefully and let us know what it looks like. Vomit her very carefully so as not to aspirate and only first thing in the morning so she can absorb food and water.

Plain Greek yogurt is fine. If you have any Apple Cider Vinegar you might mix a 3/4 teaspoon of it into a quart waterer. It will help sour up the intestinal tract and prevent yeast from growing further on down from the crop.

That’s amazing thanks so much! Ooo looks ok actually no dirty bottom! Iv brought her in yes and will keep her there for a few days. Just gave a small syringe of yogurt and she took it well! Seems much perkier! Will put her back on the soft chick crumb tomorrow! Have the vinegar and will do that tomorrow! Thanks so much x

She can sleep with the others but I would keep her confined during the day so she only eats what is good for her and you can see her poop.

Keep us posted on her! :)
