Hello! and welcome to the OEGB thread.

No..

let me try to explain this better

when I talk about gold I am referring to sex link Gold(s+) example BBR OEG

when I talk about white or silver I talk about sex link Silver(S) Birchen OEG(based on silver)

now if you mate them together Silver and gold you get Golden...

Pheomelanin has nothing to do with gold or silver, Pheomelanin(red pigment) can be boosted by Mahogany(think about RIR) and this boost is help alot by Gold(s+) but it can also happen in Silver birds...

It's all good, the "Pumpkin" male to me looks like it could be buff with Pheomelanin, which is enhancing or enrichening the buff, the body you see more of the Db brown being affected in teh same manner. Just my guess.

Buff in itsself is a very complex color.. and requires a good many things to come together for it to right and easily messed up.

Oh, alright. Sorry, have just been callin them gold so long it has become a habit. I understand what you are saying, they are silver birds that have red pigment added to them. Still want to learn how to lock that in, if possible.

correct.. but some times I see Proto Buffs(what buffs should have looked hundreds of years ago) when I see nice examples of Pumpkins,

why? sometimes you see they have lots of tail feathers completely devoided of any black pigments.. this is NOT the case in your normal Ginger Reds wich is wildtype with DarkBrown...

edit..
like below pumpkin

Db on itself can't give you a self colored bird, Co eather, there must be other genes at play and some Pumpkins have them..

I would like to ask a question....I have a brown red OEGB hen, or at least I believe she is brown red. I was trying to take a picture of the little thing but she got away from me and so these are the best picture I could get. Is she a brown red hen? If you can tell from these picture....

I do not have a brown red rooster, only a black and a bbred. Would I be able to get any decent chicks out of a combination with either of these rooster and this little hen? What would I get? I would appreciate your opinion on this!

She looks to be a brown red, but I may be seeing stippling in her flight feathers, cant really be sure either way with those pics. Putting a brown red hen underneath a black or a bb red cockbird wont give you anything but mutts.
