This is Smidgeon the Midget. When I got her she was a little tiny chipmunk looking baby. I kept waiting for her to grow as big as my other banties, but she never did. She is about the size of a dove. Is she an OEGB?
i have some myself, but they shipping would cost way more than the pullets. there are several breeders in the GA and TN areas, you might try craigslist?
if you cant find any, i am certified and will ship; but just a guess you would be looking at around $50 to ship one pullet or $70 to ship two.
i been trying to find them in my area but it seems very hard most people dont even know what im talking about lol ...... the closest i came is some lady had fawn duck wings..... i really want the same kind for the roos i have wonder what kind of babies a silver duckwing and a fawn would make .......................... if you know anyone that has pls do let me know or anyone in florida ........... wow its expensive to ship i never knew how much it would be .................... i will keep you in mind though
you can breed the fawn silver duckwings to silver duckwings with no serious problems. the offspring will come out silver duckwings and fawn silver duckwings. the fawn gene is actually a color muting gene and the fawn silver duckwing is simply a silver duckwing with that gene. the pic in my avatar is a fawn silver duckwing that i picked up to tinker around with.
Hello! So, I'm not going to be breeding my OEGB... They all have the white spots, which I've discovered is a fault. One hen's eggs are so porous NONE of the test eggs have hatched. They develop well thru 2nd candling, then just stop. The other hens have nice, thick shelled eggs, but so far only one hatchling who did well for 6 days, and as far as I can tell died of loneliness. I'll probably keep playing with their eggs as I have aquired a new incubator, and if I get 10% hatch, I know I'm doing fine. LOL. It could be their age, as they are rescues, so I have no idea how old they are. <shrug> I adopted from a no-kill shelter, so I will be looking for a new home for them before next Spring I hope. The eggs are tasty, and I get 2 at least per day, which isn't anything to sneeze at, but probably make more sense for a couple or single person. I've got major egg eaters in my family, and these guys, while fun, aren't quite what I had hoped for. I was a sucker for the rescue ladies pitch, is what happened. And they are pretty. And would make awesome back yard pets.
Just thinking out loud, and trying to figure out a OEG bantam that fits this profile:
1. solid genetic background so I can keep one group of 4 for a long time
2. good disposition, I'd like to sell them to aforementioned couples/single people who would love them but can't commit to LF due to space reasons. Or make nice 4H birds for young people (my kids are 3 and 5)
3. Driving distance source. I'm already shipping in HRIR, and have plans for Delaware next Spring, and Cornish next Fall or Winter. I'm on the Olympic Peninsula in WA. Will post a similar note on the WA thread...
Thanks for hearing me out ... helps me think. And I get great feedback here.
