Hello, Are this Jersey Chicks ?

Hi, I am currently in the middle of hatch of locally bought Jersey eggs, 21 out of 36 eggs hatched. however I have 5 chicks that have a chipmonk strip on their back. These eggs were expensive and I am thinking that perhaps i did not get all Jersey eggs. I am posting pics of the chicks I am unsure of. opinions please

Jersey Giants are either Black, white or blue. None of these would have a chipmunk stripe that I’m aware of.

no, I don’t think so. I’ve raised Black jersey Giants. See if you can find a pic of a blue giant chick -I am not familiar with how they look. However, a chipmunk pattern is not likely for a Giant. Also, black or blue giants would have slate legs, single comb with 6 points. Red wattles and earlobes (can’t really see those so well at this age). As for white giants, I think their leg color might be adifferent color - but would have to look in my APA book to verify.

Another key point for giants are yellow color on the bottom of their feet and potentially in the webbing between toes. It is a disqualification (Or a deduction of points) per standard if no yellow on foot bottoms. I’m just telling you that bc if you bought Jersey Giants eggs for a high price, then I am assuming you were expecting them to conform to standards fairly well.

I raised a big lot of hatchery quality (nothing special) Black Jersey Giants years ago.

The chicks were black, extremely cute, and sometimes had a white head spot. There weren’t any that were yellow, gray, brown, or chipmunk-striped. Not even close.

They grew into great big slow-maturing tall chickens that had a huge amount of tasty, traditional leg meat. The roosters’ crow was deep in pitch and pleasant to hear.

The white head spot may have been a hatchery defect (Barred Rock admixture maybe) but it certainly was not a complete misidentification like claiming these chicks to be “Jersey Giants.”

I don’t know what those chicks are. Sussex? Wyandottes? Orpingtons? Some sort of Cornish variety? They aren’t Jersey Giants! The white variety would be lighter.

No. But it does look like 2 might be lavender. Perhaps a lavender orpington. And a lot of chicks are chipmunk colored. We wouldnt be able to tell breeds until they were older.
