My wife Vicki (VicksChicks) & I (DH) are new "members" to your site, but by no means "brand new". We moved to an old farmhouse in the fall of 2003 and started a small flock of chickens in the spring of 2004 because of a "house warming gift" of 2 red sex link chicks from my Father-in-Law.

Knowing absolutely nothing about raising chickens, we found your website quite by accident and were immediately impressed with the volumes of knowledge shared by your members. We referred to it often and successfully raised those 2 chicks and added 3 more in the spring of 2005 ( 1 red sex link, 1 white rock, 1 black australorp).

The existing chicken coop was on the 2nd floor of a small barn and I soon found that the summer heat was seriously stressing our small flock. We vented the area as much as possible, but without much relief. Concerned for the flock's quality of life, we gave them to our neighbor who had an outdoor coop and run.

Fixing the farmhouse became priority until the spring of this year when we decided to get an outdoor coop and start a new flock. I built a run recently and we're back to enjoying having chickens on our property. BYC is still our "go to" website for questions and answers. We now decided to become members for more "direct" contact.

Thank You
