Hi Im from California. Im in my second go round raising chickens. I lost all 7 chickens I had a couple of years ago due to my failure to close the coop door. All were killed by a racoon. Frankly, I was attached and the horrific nature of the killings made me real hesitant to do it again , until summer of last year. I free ranged them at about 4 months and I have a rhode island red laying every morning I let her out. She goes under a redwood tree which took me a while to find. I was anticipating an easter egg hunt after noticing they werent laying in the nesting boxes. Anyway, love the girls and enjoy BYC info, so hello.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

So sorry for your losses. Predators are brutal! Great to hear you got back into chickens though!

Make yourself at home here and welcome to our community! :-)

Hi! Welcome to BYC! Wow that was a rough start to chicken keeping. :hugs I hope you have better luck this time! I know what you mean about it being devastating. We have probably all experienced loss to predators. 😥

So sorry to hear of the losses, don't beat yourself up though, it happens to the best of us!
The story of the hidden nest made me giggle! If it was a broody breed that laid all those eggs you would have some nice baby surprises 😂
Thanks for joining!!
