Hello Chicken Trainers!

Hi! I am getting a chick soon and I plan on training it to Come, Chase-A-PomPom, and be comfortable with a leash on. I will also be doing 4-H with my chicken so it will have to be Okay with the 4-H exercises. I will be using mealworms. I didn't know about using clickers until now. I don't think I will use one. It sounds cool! You might try naming your chick something that it can come to. A sharp one syllable name should do the trick. I've heard of training chickens to play Tic-Tac-Toe. How would you do that? I haven't tried it myself but it sounds............neat?

I don't even know what to say. A chicken playing Tic-Tac-Toe sounds out of this world!

That sounds really cool however good luck w the breed. I'm not a huge fan of RIR as they can b mean. I have 4 of them & they pick on my other EE girls. I must say I love my EE girls, they're much more affectionate and have quirkie bodies to match their personalities.

Does it matter what kind of breed I try to train? I will be getting a Light Brahma pullet.
I have a friend in my 4-H club that had some Brahma's so I'll can ask him how his turned out for him, I've heard some people complain about them and some people love them. Is it a bantam? You are probably not going to want to try and show a large heavy full sized brahma during showmanship and believe me I've seen them grow huge.

In Oregon we're required to walk our chickens which honestly is a form of behavior modification (chicken training) I often would take my walking stick and put some reward at the end of the table and use the stick to guide my bird to it then I would put more on the other end. I did this until my chicken would follow the stick without treat because you are not going to want a chicken that will only follow through with a treat.

Thanks! My brahma should be full-sized so I'll just see how it turns out. Heavy breeds lay better eggs so that is why I am getting a Heavy. I am in Idaho and here in 4-H we don't have to walk our chickens, just spread their wings and name the body parts while keeping the bird calm.
