HELLO EVERYONE!!! NEED some advice!!!!! I'm a new member!! :)

Hello everyone!!! I live in Wesley Chapel, Florida (20miles north of Tampa). I am ready to go.....I have my beautiful coop set up with an extra large run, we have a very large fenced in back yard (6ft high vinyl fencing all around),very secure and safe.

I have been searching and searching for a breeder or a hatchery IN FLORIDA, where I can purchase a few chicks. My Pet Chicken will sell me a few but they'd be coming all the way from Connecticut and I'm worried about the chicks safety and well-being. So I thought finding somebody in Florida would be safer for the chicks.

DOES ANYONE KNOW OF SOMEONE IN FLORIDA THAT WILL SELL ME A FEW CHICKS?

Here is what I'm looking for:
#1 A quiet breed
#2 A friendly and docile breed
#3 A good egg layer

The breeds I'm leaning towards are:
Orpingtons
Australorps
Easter Eggers (Ameraucaunas)

Just a suggestion since you are new. When starting a thread, you might want to use a descriptive title to attract the attention of the people you want to attract. In your case a title like “Need chicks in Florida” might be a bit more descriptive.

As you can see from most of the threads on here, most people haven’t caught on to this little trick to get help, even if they have been here for years.

Hi. X2 above. Congrats on being ready Before you get little chicks. lol You can also type in this sites Search bar "Florida Breeders" and it will bring up threads to help you find them.

How hot does it get there? Is your coop shaded and well ventilated?
Orpingtons are big fluffy birds they ideally need space and typically a larger than average pop hole, I use one for Ducks and Geese
Wide perches well spaced are also needed in fact some of mine prefer to stay on the floor of the coop if so they need protection from being poo bombed by other birds in the coop.

Orpingtons are not necessarily the best layers but they are very passive and friendly even the roos!

They do have a high feed to egg conversion ratio because of there size
Great as pets for kids though

My Orps lay eggs that are not much bigger than the relatively small Apenzellar SpitzHaubens pictured last!

Hi thanks for the help. The worse months are June to September...avg. 90 degrees & sometimes quite humid. Yes, I have shade and if I have to, I plan on putting a little fan by coop. I'm so confused!!! LOL!!!!

I put a window fan in the gable end of my one coop. It has two fans and can be used to draw air in or work as a exhaust fan. I keep it running Spring till Fall where I live and cover it with plastic for the winter. I have used the same one for two years now and picked up a used one at a resale shop for $5. so, I have a back up when it dies.
