Hi everyone,
I just joined the board and wanted to introduce myself. Got 4 chickens a couple of days ago and they're living temporarily in a barn stall that I converted into a coop. Two of the birds are Barred Rocks and two are Rhode Island Reds. They're all about 3-4 months old. A friend dropped who keeps chickens herself and she swears that one of the Rocks and one of the Reds are roosters. Those birds have more developed combs and wattles. The color is redder as well. I might go back and get two more...one of each....of birds that have much less pronounced "rooster" like features. What do you all think?
We live in Northern, Central MA and also keep bees. We're right on the main road but have a couple of acres. In the spring, I'll be building a real coop for them which will go out by a small horse barn that we have on the property. There's electricity out there as well and a place to give them a good run between the big barn and the small horse barn.
Again, just wanted to say hello and I'm looking forward to learning a lot here!
