Hello everyone

Hi and welcome to at BYC :frow We're so happy you decided to join us:ya

@Blooie sounds like OP would like info on MHP

Thanks for the tag! Could either be me and my article https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/yes-you-certainly-can-brood-chicks-outdoors.68067/

Or the more concise one that @azygous wrote later (and from which I gleefully stole the portal door idea!)

Mama Heating Pad is a method of raising chicks using a metal frame of some sort (mine is a scrap of fencing) and a human heating pad that DOES NOT have automatic shutoff, or one like the ones I have which have a selection on the controller for “Stay On”. I use the Sunbeam x-Press Heat. The idea is that the chicks seek out warmth and security when they think they need it, they sleep all night straight through, and which warms the chicks directly instead of heating the entire space they occupy. Using this, my chicks are usually at bare minimum heat at 3 weeks (if any) and by 4 weeks they are so well acclimated to ambient temps, and integrated fully with the flock, that I remove the brooder and heating pad completely. I raise them this way even when our springtime temps are in the twenties, dropping into the teens at times, with sideways blowing snow. If you would like more info on Mama Heating Pad, I’d be happy to help.

Welcome to BYC! So glad Google led you here - that’s how I found it, too! Not only do hubby and I have some disabilities, (besides being older than dirt), but we also have a disabled little granddaughter who loves the chickens! If we can do it, anyone can! ;)
