Hi my name is John. My wife has been talking for months about getting chickens, so I went on Amazon and got one of those starter coops. It was easy enough to put together but then I realized I know nothing about raising chickens. Uugh I’m sure I’ll have plenty of questions so thank you in advance for all your help.

Hello and welcome to BYC!

You have definitely come to the right place for all the fun and learning! Using a prefab coop, make SURE not to stuff it with chickens. Chickens need approximately 5 square feet per bird in the coop, 10 square feet per bird in the run. Chickens will harm each other if cramped. You will need ventilation in this small coop, so will will need yo cut in plenty of air vents at the top walls.

No I haven’t ordered any chicks yet. I found a poultry farm near me and we are going there this weekend weather permitting.

Don't do it. Those pre-fabs are horribly designed with ridiculously inadequate ventilation and made of the cheapest wood available.
