Hello fellow chicken addicts

Hello, My name is Morgan and I'm a chicken addict. It started just a couple weeks ago at the beginning of chick season. We decided that we wanted to add chickens to the homestead and thats how it all began. But we now have 3 barred rock chicks , 3 RIR, 3 Amera- kindas(probably Easter Eggers) and 3 Olive eggers, plus 12 cornish cross, 2 turkeys ( one broad brested bronze and and 1 white) the broze is Thelma and is my husbands pride and joy. 1 random rooster we were gifted (he's a jerk so we will see how long he last) and 5 ducks .
we had 6 but apparently some of our other ducks are murderers, but they are named Jekyll and hyde so we can't really expect any less from them.

other than all these birds we also have 8 goats. 3 Nubians, 2 Nigerian dwarfs, 1 myotonic and 2 rescues from the closing of Bonnie Springs . I think one is Nigerian but not quite sure what the other is.

We also have a 3 year old BLM burro, 3 dogs, 3 cats and a fish. Welcome to the funny farm. Lol

So far the chicks have been a TON of work. But I think it will all be very rewarding once we start to get meat and eggs!

So far my favorite chick is the silver one, I think she is so pretty. ( pic attached)

Like most in order to run my farm I have a full time job ( plus a commute to get there!) I dream of the day where I can run the ranch Full time. #goals View attachment 1723688
You could process the wayward rooster along with the Cornish X!

Let me know if you need tips on processing

Absolutely! we still have about 4ish weeks until they are ready to be processed. I've been watching videos on YouTube. But there is only so much you can learn from watching vs. Doing.

With that many to process, you might be able to send them off for processing. We have one here that will process them and it is not to expensive.

Hello! Welcome to BYC!! :frow

Have you gotten your coop/run planned out yet?

Sounds like a lovely busy place around there! I love Nigerian dwarfs...and goats in general ;)

Feel free to check out the links below for some interesting reading. Good luck on your adventures!

My husband is supposed to be building me a coop this weekend but we will see.. he was supposed to build it last weekend but decided we should have a bbq instead. Lol man logic.

The goal is to build something semi-permanent that we can easily add onto as we expand. We live on 1.25 acres so we have the space for a nice big coop + run.

As for the goats the Nubian are my favorite, my Nigerians were dam raised and aren't super social unless you have treats of some sort. But I'm really taking a liking to chimney(one of our rescues) I'm pretty confident that he is a Nigerian.

I think it helps that he was in a petting zoo so he just always wants to cuddle.
