Hello fellow chicken lovers!

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy you've joined us :ya That's quite a flock you have there, so sorry to hear about the eagle:hugs
Thank you. My first time dealing with an eagle, but they nest on the lake beside me, as do the hawks and ospreys. I'm happy to be in this group!!!:love

Hello everyone. I new at this. We had chickens when I was a kid but not for a long period of time. Needless to say that was a lot of years ago. Through a friend I received eggs to which I incubated and freaked out over for 20 days and with success ended up with 9 chics. Oh happy day, I almost called out of work because I was having 9 babies. Well at 3 days old my curious dog killed 8 of them. Boys hard lesson learned, I was so up set my husband came straight home to console me. Well we went and bought 6 new chic to give my 1 lucky baby new friends. So be it that 1 lucky chic is a rooster. Guess what his name is? Lucky for me I purchase pullets. I then decided to give the incubating thing another try because my hatch rate the first time was not so great. My goodness I read everything. I put 12 eggs in the incubator, I watched the temp, humity and I candle the eggs. Yes, success. 11 of the 12 hatched. I now have 18 chickens and just started getting eggs a week ago. THE BEST DAY. I have been reading the forums here for 23 weeks. I thank you for all the help getting me to my first egg. I look forward to learning more.
