Hello everyone! I am Erica and I am a brand new chick mom! I am so excited to have these chicks, its been a lifelong dream. We are building a coop right now and redoing a part of our backyard just for the chickens. Here are the facts about me:

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
YES! I am brand new to chickens. I was born and raised in San Francisco so no one had backyard chickens. But now I own a home in Orange County, CA and we have 1/3 of an acre so plenty of room for chickens! I just got 5 baby chicks (1-day old) yesterday, June 20th, 2017.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 5 baby chicks right now.

(3) What breeds do you have?
I have the following:
1 Buff Orpington
1 Rhode Island Red
1 Australorp
1 Barred Plymouth Rock
1 Blue Laced Wyandotte

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Just searching "Baby Chick Care" on Yahoo and this came up! I really need a support group cause I am a very nervous mom!!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love movies, games, reading, swimming and animals.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am married and I have 2 human children, aged 11 and 7. We have 4 dogs (1 Standard Poodle, 1 Miniature Poodle, 1 Cockapoo and 1 Maltipoo. We also have 2 Guinea Pigs.
I work for Sony PlayStation.
I absolutely LOVE all animals and am a vegetarian. Animals make life worth living and I cannot imagine my life without. :)

Welcome to BYC.
Sit tight nervous one....it will get easier each day.
Make sure our brooder isn't too hot and keep a close eye out for Cocci symptoms these first few weeks.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Sounds like you have a nice variety of breeds there! Work with them now and they will be super friendly. I like to get them all out on the living room floor, (lay an old sheet down) and they instantly gravitate to your lap. Turns them into lap sitters fast, they never forget the comfort of a soft warm seat! Just make sure when you do get them out of the brooder that all danger is locked away in another room. ;)

Good luck with your new babies and welcome to our roost! :)
