Hi All!
I've owned some backyard chickens for the last year and have used this site time and time again for advice and wisdom. From everything to how to prepare for getting my first chicks, to which types to get, to an impacted hen, this site has seen me through all of it!
My first flock from last spring consisted of three birds. I lost one to an impacted egg during her first lay, and gave the second to a friend because this RIR was quite vocal and I live in town. Our last 1 year old bird is a Barred Rock named Nugget, and she just went broody... I'll be doing more research on that!
I also have two 9 week old chicks, Noodle (a Colombian Wyandotte) and Niblet (a Cherry Egger) and we are working through the introduction process between them and Her Majesty, Nugget. We also just finished building our own coop, which was a lot of fun and work!
I look forward to asking questions and continuing to learn more!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Are you looking to break Her Majesty or let her set on some fertile eggs? PBRs make great moms...

Thanks for the welcome! I'm looking to break her. We are at our city limit of 3 birds with Nugget and the two youngsters. She is being quite unfriendly to the little ones right now, but I don't know if that's because of pecking order establishment or because she is moody, or a combo of both. She has quite an attitude at the moment.

Broodies are crabby. Put her in a small dog crate with food and water, no bedding. Elevate it so air can circulate under her. Leave her in there for two days and two nights release her and see how she does. If she goes back to the nest, put her back in the crate.

I’ll try this! I assume now is NOT the time to try to move the youngsters into the coop with her? We are planning to transition them all to the new coop at the same time but her moodiness has me thinking maybe it’s better to wait.
