I started yesterday, and thank folks for the ideas on how to deal with the injured hen we have, and the suspected instigator...the one young rooster. It will be fun to get better educated in the article section too.
We've probably had chickens for about 7 years. Currently there are 7 free range chickens that are sometimes in our small old horse barn. The four youngsters are six month old Ameraucana's, and we also have three ISA Browns who are about 2 years old. We also have a horse and a barn cat, and a house cat named Turkey. I'm thinking we may need to get a new dog to guard the farm. Our black lab made it to 13 years old but is gone now. We also have have ponds on the property, one that has fish that I feed (the catfish are over a foot long) So that's our zoo!
Besides being ongoing zoo keepers, we are luckily retired but for fun are now hobby viticulturists with a little over an acre of wine grapes. We have 6 varieties of grapes to harvest, if/when the winter isn't -15 degrees too many days. We had 3 customers this fall for the one variety that was fruitful.
