In the Brooder
Hello all, I'm new here although i have been frequenting this site for almost a month now.
My husband and I have been making preparations to move off grid in the next couple years. I wanted to start my own flock next year as everything with covid has been interesting to say the least, and now our children are starting homeschool before i had planned on doing so. However as many things seem to go in life, we now have our own small flock of ducks and chickens before i had wanted to travel this road.
That being said, i LOVE my birds and i am so glad we ended up with a flock this year. I have wanted a flock and have done all kinds of research for many months so although we were not as prepared as i would have liked to bring babies home my husband decided to surprise me with ducklings. The next thing i know we now have chickens too. All together we have four ducklings( 3 rouens and 1 peking) and five chicks( 2 black australorps, 1 rhode island red, and 2 golden lace polish)
I do believe we have ended up with all boy ducks, which is a little heartbreaking because i adore my ducks so much but one in particular is already starting to cause problems with aggression. I am hoping one of the australorps is a rooster. (The rhode island red and the golden lace polish are all suppose to be hens)
I am so excited to really start this adventure, and it is very nice to have a place like this to be able to reach out and talk to others who know more then i do. I love learning and this seems to be an amazing place to do just that.
