I am a newbie at raising my own chickens although my parents have been raising them for many years. Last weekend my husband bought me and our 5yr old son two 1 week old Red Star pullets. They are so sweet and my son loves to just sit beside their box and talk to them for hours on end. These babies are sweet and want to be held and peep loudly when you put them up. This is a new experience for us. My 5yr old has been helping his grandparents with their farm chores since he could walk good. He love feeding their chickens and collecting the "farm fresh eggs" as he calls them. We got these 2 Red Stars for egg production and we've ordered 4 Silkies (3 pullets/1roo) for my son to raise on his own for pets and breeding. We're in the process of looking for coop ideas. My son is so excited that he's going to have his own little chicken farm. My parents have been a great help on information and direction.
Thanks

So Very nice to Meet you ! I think pets and animals help to teach children responsibility .. Healthy fun .. I wish I could have raised all my kids in the country and am happy at least my younger two can experience the joys of raising chickens and other animals .. Great fun for me too !

Hello! I am new also and am starting out with seven girls. Besides the fresh eggs I hope my three boys will gain some great memories from helping me raise them. Good luck and I hope your find a great coop. I think that's half the fun. Lenore
