Hi! I lived in Alaska for ten years, and I know... shipping can be a problem. Even if you do find a place that has what you want, they probably won't ship to you.
Are you new to Alaska? Do you have friends and family in "the lower 48"?
My suggestion to you is to either go to the chickens yourself and bring them back (there is a carry-on animal fee of around $50 if you fly), or have a friend bring or send them to you. Shipping might get pretty costly, but worthwhile if absolutely must have a certain breed.
If you are having a friend mail the contraband chickens to you, definitely do it later in the Spring, when it is warmer. If you are not in Anchorage, it might be better to go there for a pick-up since even "express" shipments can get stuck for a day or two there.

I've been here for a little over 7 years. And shipping is always a problem. I do have family in Ohio and Mississippi but the chicks I'm wanting are hard to come by. Time will tell. If I can find the ones I want thyen I can get them through the post office as some others up here have done. I just don't want anything but what I'm after. Up here with the price of things, it's all about getting the most for your dollar.
