Hello from Apple Hill

Hi there,

We became the proud "parents" of thirteen chicks on Wednesday, six Red Shaver Sex-Links and seven Harco Black Sex-links. So far, we have managed not to kill anybody through incompetence, and this morning I did a thorough chick-butt check. Cleaned up a few butts that had a little bit of dried-on poop, but they are all looking very good.

These are our first chickens, and I also started keeping bees this summer, so I have quite the learning curve going on. We live on an 86-acre farm in eastern Ontario, Canada.

My husband and I are completely smitten with our girls! They will be our future flock of laying hens.

Wow, thank you for the friendly welcomes. What a great forum.

I am really new to beekeeping (as I am to chicken-keeping!), but that said, I think bees are reasonably easy to keep. Comparing my honeybees to the chicks, so far I'd say the chicks are considerably more fragile.

And fortunately, I never have to inspect bee-bums! If you are interested in bees, I would check out the Beesource bee forum: http://www.beesource.com/forums/ Very helpful folks!

I am in extreme eastern Ontario (right in between Ottawa and Montreal), sort of southeast of Bancroft. I went to camp in Bancroft as a kid and I agree with you about its beauty.

I'm looking forward to learning about all things chicken.
