Hello!
I've been lurking on this forum for a while, wishing that I could own chickens myself. Well guess what - the other day, my sister (who I live with) came up and said she wanted to start building a shelter, so we could get chickens in a few months! I figure I'll need some advice in the next while, so I finally bucked down and made an account.
I am incredibly excited.
We live in far northern CA, a bit north of Eureka.

Well, it was kind of my idea first. As in, everyone in the family has known that I wanted chickens for the last five years or so. But we just moved somewhere with a yard for the first time - and our new place is owned by family members, so no landlady telling us no chickies!
I just didn't realize that my sister was so on board with it!

Thank you for the welcomes, everyone. So far, I think our biggest impediment will be the chickens themselves. We cannot get any chicks that are young enough to chirp and be covered in fuzz, because my sister's cat is a major hunter, and will kill anything bird-like under about two pounds. But, we are also, um. Have a slightly stunted budget. So, we'll see how it goes.
