In the Brooder
hi! My name is Wende and I’ve got four Columbian Wyandottes on the way, three girls and a boy. I’m not sure why I got the boy in retrospect other than to have as a pet. I will have him fixed so I don’t end up with chicklets.
I started raising chickens with my first, a gorgeous Light Brahma named Sunshine Omelette. I raised her from a chick. I’ll try to attach a pic of her. She was killed one night, by what we don’t know. Her ashes are on the mantle along with other beloved pets who have passed over the years.
I live in Central Austin so my new chicklets will be a city flock. The city of Austin promotes inner city chicken rearing and I think they even offer some rebates. So if you’re in the Austin area, get your flock going.
I’m not sure what I will do with so many eggs. I have two kittens and three small dogs. I will soon be fostering two more older cats and a new addition to the family, a silver (white) British Long Hair kitten, will be born later this month. I think perhaps some of the eggs will be used for my other animals, some will be eaten, and the rest given away. What does everyone else do with their eggs I wonder?
