Hello from Austin, Texas! I am thinking about getting some little chickens to raise for eggs. I live on over an acre and there are no restrictions in my area as many families have coops of their own.

I am doing all the research now as I am seeing chicks being advertised in the area.

Any and all input, suggestions welcomed!

It's definitely better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Also, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...-there-and-cut-more-holes-in-your-coop.47774/) Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it!

Welcome from Salado! We are lucky to have great chicken-gettin places. In fact, my next babies will be Columbian Wyandottes to be picked up at Ideal Poultry on March 14. Couldn't find them anywhere, so put my name on their waiting list; they called last week to give a pick up date...located in Cameron. Lots of local livestock feed stores have chicks. If you get to Georgetown, try Georgetown Feed Store on Highway 29. We also have lots of local breeders that post on Craigslist.

Is your coop ready for you to start collecting? Make sure it's a good size because this chicken and egg stuff is addictive. On this site, every picture and story will make you want one! When we were young, my sweet hubby would say that I could get whatever I wanted. Now that I have chickens and goats...notice he doesn't say that anymore. But, gotta love him...he builds great coops and barns!
