Hey,
I'm in Houston County.. so not too far away. Thank you, I had not yet discovered the Alabama thread. I will check it out. Right now I'm looking to find a high quality pure bred Black Orp hen to use to improve my Lavenders. The pair I have are wonderful, they are quiet, very sweet, and a sight to behold. You can still see the muffs on the hen from the Araucanas used to get the Lavender genes. I'd like to breed that out in time and hope to have a lot more by this time next year. My hen has only laid 2 eggs since she started about a week and a half to two weeks ago. I was hoping that she would lay a lot more but I think the neighbors cat is scaring them. I've got it so the cat can't get in but several times I've went out to check on them and the cat was sitting next to the cage looking them over. I'm very happy that I went with the small mesh wiring with the really small squares all the way around and have it so it would be difficult for something to dig into the pen.. however, I think the cat's visits have got my hen upset and that's why she isn't laying. That's the only thing I can figure that would be causing her sudden stop in laying after laying two eggs.
I'll see you around on here.![]()
. Most of the Alabamians on the Bama thread are from the northern & central part of the state, but there are few of us from the Wiregrass lol. Seems like, I remember seeing someone post pictures of Orpingtons they had for sell on the Alabama thread not too long ago - I know they had lavender and I think they may have had black, too. If nothing else, you might try checking out the Buy~Sell~Trade section on here. There's usually lots of great breeds for sale there. It could definitely be the cat. Chickens are sensitive to a lot of things. Hopefully, she'll start laying more eggs for you soon, cause she sounds very pretty
