Hello!

We are due to start chicken keeping in my family for the first time since my mum was a teenager, and I've been snooping round BYC for a while and decided it was worth joining, despite you guys being mostly in America.

We've previously kept and bred Chinese Painted Quail, and we currently have 3 Japanese quail (a male and 2 females) and we intend to get 3 more hens since we lost one.

We have a chicken coop with a run which is big enough for 15 hens apparently, although the run is only big enough for about 5, which is all we plan to keep as we won't be able to let them out to free range due to our dogs who think chicken is tasty.

We plan to get a cream legbar, a silkie, a welsummer, and a couple more of one or two of these, and a welsummer cockerel to keep the peace.

We also have 3 dogs, a tortoise, a hamster, a canary and an aviary full of budgies (current count is 13 with plans for 3 more).

We live in not-so-sunny Berkshire in England in the valley of the river Thames, and we have a stream running through the bottom of the garden.

That's pretty much all about me and us, I'll look forward to chatting with you guys about all things poultry :)

Thanks a lot

Maria
