Hi - I'm new to Backyard Chickens, although because my daughter Kooshie is a member I'm aware that this is a great community and place to be! We have two flocks of chickens, a small flock of Seramas in our suburban backyard, and another flock that is being cared for by some friends. In that other flock are some Easter Eggers (including my namesake, Turtle Island), a Black Star hen, a Salmon Faverolle (she's so cool), a Buff Orpington (solemn and sweet), and several Gourmet Blacks (a meat breed, but we've kept them as egg layers and just great companions). We came to have chickens a few years ago when we were taking care of the Gourmet Blacks on behalf of our friends who were away. During that time we fell in love with them (my younger daughter started scooping them up and parading about the yard with these big birds under her arms). When our friends witnessed our enthusiasm for the birds, they offered to sell them to us at a great price. How could we refuse!

Our lives are definitely more fun and fulfilled with chickens in them!

Looking forward to the conversation!

cheers,
Turtle
