Hi - I've recently become the local Crazy Chicken Lady in my neighborhood.
A neighbor had multiple roosters, and one of them decided over a year ago that he should adopt me. He started out with perching on my front porch glider, then gradually transformed into behaving much like a house cat. I decided after a few months that he should have a friend of his own kind, so now I have the one rooster, one laying hen, three pullets that are four months old, and six chicks/pullets that are two months old. Chicken math is REAL.
A neighbor helped me build an 8X8 run, and we converted my metal shed into a coop.
My rooster is pretty docile and non-aggressive, but he can be pretty bossy at times.
I'm really curious about the psychology of chickens. I wish I could understand what they are telling me when it is perfectly clear they are trying to say something!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Chickens want to communicate, they are quite curious about us humans, they are quite intelligent! Work with them, they can learn many words and respond accordingly.

Welcome to our community!
True! My chickens all used to respond to ‘here chicky chicky,’ and one also responded to me calling her name!
