Hello from eastern Canada

I haven't had chickens since my children were young, and now find that 25 years later I would like to have some again. Man-thing knows nothing of this; I am slowly getting him exposed to people I know who have chickens and ducks. I'm leaning toward Marans chickens...anyone here have experience with this breed, or know of anyone on the east coast of Canada who has them? I live in the suburbs, so I'm looking for something that will be happy in a group of 3 or 4 and not be TOO noisy...

From PEI. Depending where you live, I'll be ordering from Performance this coming spring and will be picking them up (any reason to go for a drive). I don't see why I can't pick up others at the same time.
