Hi I´m new with chickens. I started this hobby last november. I have one sussex hen, 3 mix roosters; that´s because the two of them first look like hen but they come along great. I also have 2 "piikkiöläinen alhon kanta" hen wich are finnish "country" chickens; very cold hardy, 1 hyline brown and 2 mix from country chickens: black and beige colored. My head rooster is mix of leghorn and alho, and the other two I believe have a little bit of kochin in their blood. We live in the southern part of Finland and we have had extremely mild winter; about 35 F from october till february. Only January we had just about 0 F. Normally we would have 0 to -10 F those 5 months. I have an insulated coop for my chickens and a run about 30 x 13 feet. When I´m home I let them free range in the garden.
Today morning my sussex hen had her first baby chick hatched. So cute yellow little fluffy was waiting me when I went to the coop give them water and feed. I put some photos later. I´ve been reading this site for a while and it´s very informative. Thank you all for that
