Unfortunately they will attack any time they have the chance. We have had them buzz our heads while we were outside. One swooped down and took a squirrel off the ground in front of us today.

Welcome! Way to get yourself prepared. This is only the begining. So many fun thing ahead. Chickens are addicting. Last year at this time I had 5 chickens.....now I have OCD (obsessive chicken disorder).

The hawks will try so give the chickens plenty of space to hide, i let mine hang out with the dogs and they don't mind the dogs, the hawks don't come around when they are out... and today i saw 2 mockingbirds chase a hawk out of the backyard and out towards the beach. it has been almost 2 years and they free range everyday and had no losses.
