Hi, my name is Jen. A friend got me addicted to chickens. I just ordered chicks from Ideal. I split it with the friend who got me hooked. I got 6 ameraucanas. She got a variety. We will sell of the rest on craigs list after we have the ones we want picked out. We get them in 2-3 weeks.

I have my brooder set up in the garage waiting for them. My husband brought home a produce box that is pallet sized. I used thick screening for windows as a "mosquito net" style covering to keep them in.

My husband isn't to excited, but I didn't give him a choice, lol. As long as I don't make him do the dirty work, he will be fine.

Welcome. It's nice to have more Californians here. I have family in Visalia, to the South. They say since I have chickens, I should move to the valley. Not for now.

Your husband sounds like mine. It took me talking about wanting them for years for him to give in. We have 2 chicks right now and he checks in on them all the time. They are growing on him.
