Hi all,

Just an introduction as I'm new on this site. We live in Hawke's Bay, on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand.

We have 8 free range hens - all different kinds, all named, all pets. We didn't intend to have 8, but I guess we are softies and our flock just grew as we accepted other people's unwanted hens. We also have 2 muscovy ducks who live a very privileged life too.

I actually joined this site hoping that someone can offer ideas on how to help our limping chicken who has a split spur. I've posted this in the 'injuries and cures' section, if you think you might be able to help.

Thanks,
Kath

Hi Kath and welcome to BYC - great to have you onboard. There's quite a few Kiwis here at BYC, and i am sure that if you type "New Zealand" in the search box there will be a thread where you guys probably spend half the time talking chicken and the other half going on about how good at rugby you are!

- don't worry, I'm just jealous about the latter.

If you check out the Learning Centre, you'll find a whole host of resources on all things chicken.

Lastly but by no means least, the members here are amazing - very friendly and helpful, so if you need an answer to a question or simply want some reassurance that what you are doing is ok, then post away - we all help each other out here at BYC.

All the best

Hi :welcome Kath

Glad you could join us here! Flocks do have a way growing but it happens to us all so you are not alone! I'm sure the emergencies section will be able to help you with your split spur.

Good luck with your flock in the future and enjoy BYC :frow

Good job on posting on the emergency forum...that's the best place to get a health concern addressed.

It's nice to have you here, make yourself at home!

Hello and welcome. I hope you can fix your chook, (unfortunately I have nothing to offer about that.)
